You made me realise

Hayley Hare

I’m a click happy photographer, recording as much as I can from everyday
life.  These photographs were taken during a gig and were meant to be
clear and pristine.

Due to the hustle and bustle from the gig these very painterly images were produced.  A mistake as they were not planned but loved as they record the energy
of the gig.

Remembered landscapes

Memories are associated with the environments in which they were formed. This series ‘Remembered Landscapes’ examines how intimate places can structure one’s sense of self. The photographer revisits the locations of vivid childhood memories, resulting in images that are a combination of personal recollection and timeless places of escape.

The images are inspired by memories of intimate experiences and landscapes in which the artist felt secure. This procedure of re-visiting these places allows the photographer to feel a sense of belonging and refuge.

My project uses these ‘errors’ of film to try and evoke the idea of memory and loss- in the same way that some of these blurred images are thrown away, memories are distorted.

Upside down

Flavia Dent

I took the picture with my camera looking through a plastic lens which flipped everything upside down. I wanted it to have a clear image of the upturned furniture but what came out was a beautiful mix of blurred colours.

The other two images were taken one after the other out of a car window. I can’t put my finger on how the contrast in colour between the two photographs are on either end of the spectrum. Picture two is over exposed, but I like the clear curve of the window apparent in both.

Moments in time

Deborah Dalton

Capturing moments in time and space through careful observation and mark making I explore the visual phenomenology of my world.

These images fit the theme ‘In Pursuit of Error’ however this is something that I actively pursue.  These images would probably be discarded by others but to me they represent my way of working.

An altered view

Sabine Kussmaul

Debbie Harry has this hairstyle that just might suit me…taking a picture of the magazine cut-out to show the hairdresser….and it went wrong…

Wanting to take a silly inside-the-car panorama to create a visual memory for a fabulous family holiday on the Isle of Tiree….where the lack of sunlight, much rain  and much wind just asked for something a bit more experimental….which did not work.

No idea how this happened and why…but isn’t it just soft and warm?

Polaroid wonder

Sophie Adams

The first image is an example of the happy accidents I’ve always embraced in polaroid photography – the light leak, the patchy emulsion where it’s failed to spread, the mysterious sparkling spots…

The other image is a failure on my part rather than the technology.  A portrait of my daughter, taken through a glass door.  I’d hoped to capture more detail but the rather ghostly image still appeals to me.

Intentional errors

Dave Eardley

These are some Francis Bacon inspired self-portraits. They’re all straight out of the camera, no photo shopping.  I do mess about with an old Canon dslr and all of my photos are intentionally blurred, I find it gives them more mood than a straight documentary style photo.

I have found photography to be an even better form of self expression than my first love of graffiti art!
